The Business Benefits of Working With Schools

11 Jul 2007

Despite the variety of activities, the wealth of support and the desire of schools and colleges to work with businesses, there are many companies in Oxfordshire who do not currently take advantage of the opportunities to engage with the education system.

By looking at engagement activities from a business perspective, this report explores the reasons why companies do, and perhaps more importantly, do not participate in activities with schools and colleges in Oxfordshire.

This research has shown that there is interest from businesses in working with schools and colleges.  However, many firms do not participate because they don’t have the right information.  Suggestions were made about how activities could be structured and communicated which would make them more attractive to business and hence increase their uptake.  An outcome from this was the development of a portal:  http://yourbusinesstheirfuture.com, offering easily accessible business orientated information on how Oxfordshire businesses can benefit from working with young people.
