Keith Mitchell talks about the Oxfordshire Economic Partnership

Leader’s blog: working in partnership for the economy

Published on: 24 Nov 2009

I recently attended the Oxfordshire Economic Partnership Dinner at the Randolph Hotel with some 100 other guests. This is a great opportunity to speak with new and old contacts – an immensely important part of my job if I am to stay in contact with views and opinions in our county.
Councillor Keith Mitchell

I shared a table inter alia with (in alphabetical order!) Janet Beer (Brookes Vice Chancellor); Chris Harris (developer of Bicester Village and the proposed Bicester Business Park);  Stephen Jones (MD of London-Oxford Airport);  Rob Jonckheer (Partner, Manches Oxford);  John Leighfield (Chairman of Research Machines); Warren Ralls (SEEDA Director for Oxfordshire); Martin Sutton (MD of Stagecoach Oxford) and others.

The guest speaker was Baroness Susan Greenfield who demonstrated intellectual skill and oratorical pre-eminence alongside an amazing ability for a senior academic to adopt a youthful dress style.

The Oxfordshire Economic Partnership’s stated aim is to help sustain Oxfordshire’s world-class economy and its status as a great place to live, work, learn and play. Its membership is made up of the county council, district councils, The Mid-Counties Co-operative Limited, The University of Oxford, Cochranes of Oxford Ltd, Oxford Brookes University, Science Oxford, the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority.

Each of those organisations knows the importance of a strong economic recovery for Oxfordshire and believe the county is well placed to be able to look forward to emergence from recession with confidence
